Roatan and Bay Islands Virtual Tours

French Harbour is named after a Frenchman who had on of the first homesteads in the area during the British occupation in the 1740s. The town is one of the islands major commercial areas and is home to the islands major fishing fleet.

The West Bay to West End road is one of the most spectactular drives on the island. Though the trip is only 10 or so minutes it offers amazing views of both shorelines and is a must do for all visitors to Roatan.

Iguana Preserve

Sherman Arch and his family began their Preserve in 1983, today it is home to hundreds of Iguanas. Over the past decade or two, Iguanas have been in a steady decline on Roatan due to them being a local delicacy.

Founded in 1835, Coxen Hole was established when several families moved to Roatan from the Cayman Islands. The name Coxen comes from the mysterious buccaneer Captain John Coxen who lived on Roatan from 1687-1697. Coxen Hole is one of Roatan’s major commercial centers.

Located on the East of the island. Port Royal has a unique history and was once a site for English pirate camps. The British Military also built 2 small forts here in 1740s. The area is famous for its relaxed atmospshere and untouched beauty.

West End is the main tourist town in Roatan and is home to a wide variety of hotels, restaurants and dive shops. The town has a famous laid back atmosphere and is a great place to relax and enjoy the Caribbean.

Flowers Bay is located close to Coxen Hole and is a large residential area, which runs on either side of the road for a few miles. The town is a great place to meet and interact with the friendly residents of Roatan.
